根据有关统计资料,截至1999年末,由我国铁道部管理、正式运营的标准轨距和窄轨铁路隧道为5204座,总长度2510.788 km(未包括青藏、南疆、宝中等临管线上的隧道)。这个数字较1998年末减少了130座(53.345 km),变动的主要原因是1999年福州铁路分局成立龙岩铁路有限责任公司和泉州铁路有限责任公司,将漳平工务段所管龙坎线、漳龙线、漳泉线、天湖山支线等设备划归公司管辖,并撤销漳平工务段,由此上海铁路局管理的隧道遂减少116座(33.965 km)。另外,1999年末隧道数量较1998年末变动较大的还有兰州、郑州铁路局,兰局是由于将临管的宝中线隧道划出而减少,郑局是由于宝成复线等新线验交而增加。
