一提起3D图形加速卡,大多数人可能首先想到的是诸如:nVIDIA、3dfx、Matrox等在市场中大红大紫的芯片厂商,的确目前nVIDIA风头正劲,第六代显卡也已全面上市。绘图芯片厂商诸侯混战的局面正愈演愈烈。目前nVIDIA公司在全球发布了其最新的NV 15图形芯片,它的性能比原来的GeForce 256要快3倍左右,NV15采用了单周期4像素,双材质单像素的技术,因此在多重贴图的游戏中将可以提升近2~3倍的速度,其工作的核心频率更可达到200MHz,在T&L(硬件转换与光影)中可提升多达45%的性能。而内存则配备了400MHz的高性能DDR显存。如此的规格造就了在运用单像素上的单材质游戏软件可以达到每秒640MB pixel的填图速率,更胜一筹的是由于NV15支持双材质单像素,故在双材质下NV15也同样拥有每秒640 MB pixel的填图速率。令人不可思议的是nVIDIA还将推出另一款128MB的NV15代号为NV15GL支持AGP4x Pro的接口,很明显,这又是一款高档图形工作站型产品。继nVIDIA的NV 15发布之后,Matrox也不甘示弱地推出了自己新一代的Matrox产品G450。最新的G450图形芯片与G400系列属于同一等级的产品。不过G450采用了0.18微米的工艺,所以散热量大大的减少了,因此在G450的显卡上不需要安装散热装置(风扇)。另外G450还集成了多种功能,如数字平板显示器的转换器(DFPT)、视频输出、副RAMDAC及64位双倍转输率(DDR)
