很久以前人们就已经知道水分的蒸发能使湿球的温度下降.1815年首次制成了乾湿球湿度计.之后,人们对它进行了各种各样的改进,其中,尤以1887年阿斯曼研制的通风式阿斯曼湿度计最为突出,一直到现在由于它的精度最高,仍然获得广泛地使用.另外,还有毛发湿度计,因为精度高,结构简单和使用方便也是现在广泛使用的一种湿度计.至于其他许多人研制的各种类型的湿度计,除了少数几种外,大部分都达不到实用阶段.
