油画自传入中国之始,中国人就开始了对油画这一西方画种中式化、本土化的进程。新疆在中国文化历史发展中扮演了一个重要的角色。这里所拥有的独特的地域文化,吸引着艺术家们对先进的艺术观念、强烈的心灵冲击、未知的神秘地带、全新的艺术形象等事物的强烈渴求。新疆风景画是艺术家们艺术语言实践的重要题材。在传统社会中它不仅仅是艺术作品,更是本民族文化生活形态的一种审美展示和观念传承。其典型画面特征所蕴含的是本民族对美好生活的寄期和对精神家园的归往,它既有美学审美功能,也有史学价值。
