一、侗族的撒妈、撒堂崇拜概况侗族,是一个多神崇拜的民族,女性祖先、男性祖先、古树、巨石、名山、名水、桥梁及某些动物,都属于崇拜之列。但是,女神居群神之首,女神崇拜居群神崇拜之首,女神是至高无上的神,这是侗族多神崇拜的特点。女神又分为“撒两”(偷生母)、“撒高桥”(桥头母)、“撒对”(坳头母)、“撒妈”(寨祖母)、“撒堂”(先祖母)①等等。而以“撒妈”和“撒堂”(过去曾译为圣母)为至高无上、主宰一切的女神。侗族人民对撒妈和撒堂的信仰和崇拜最虔诚、最隆重。每个村寨都建有一个至数个“言撒”(直译为先祖母的屋)、“金撒”(先祖母的殿),即撒妈
