毛泽东同志曾经说过:“‘五·四’运动的杰出的历史意义,在于它带着辛亥革命还不曾有的姿态,这就是彻底地不妥协地反帝国主义和彻底地不妥协地反封建主义”。还说:“‘五·四,运动所进行的文化革命则是彻底地不妥协地反封建史化的运动,自有中国历史以来,还没有过这样伟大的而彻底的文化革命。”作为这一彻底地不妥协地反对封建文化运动的有机组成部分的地方戏曲,也积极进行了改革,在反对旧文化,提倡科学、民主思想的斗争中,立下了不可磨灭的功劳。京剧方面,在北京有汪笑侬,上海有夏月润兄弟,天津、山东也有不少人进行过改革;在川剧方面,则有四川康芷林等组织的“三庆会”;广州有欧阳予倩;西安有专门从事秦腔改革的“易俗社”。在陕西和西北地区来说,以易俗社为代表的秦腔改革,坚持时间最长,组织得最好,改革最有成绩,效果最为显著。

Beijing Opera has Wang Xiaonong in Beijing, Shanghai Xia Yun Yun brothers, Tianjin, Shandong, there are many people have carried out reforms; in Sichuan Opera, there are Sichuan Kang Zhilin and other organizations “three celebration”; Ouyang Yuqian Guangzhou; Xian has a special Engaged in the reform of the Qin chamber “Yixiu community.” In Shaanxi and Northwest China, the reform of Shaanxi Province, represented by Yishe, maintained the longest time, the best organization, the most achievements in the reform, and the most obvious result was achieved.
