The ambiguity in Shakespeare’s masterpiece Hamlet has been a heated topic since its birth.By employing the theory of cultural studies the author of this essay intends to have a thorough exploration and analysis of the ambiguity in the play.By understanding the historical moment of transition between the medieval and modern worlds and investigating the dynamic and interacted interrelations between dominant and residual cultural elements of transitional era,the author of this essay draws a conclusion that the tragedy lies in Prince Hamlet’s inability to distinguish the ambiguity of the transitional period.
