作为“五四”前期的诗人刘大白,人们早已不记得他了,但由于他的《卖布谣》等诗,刻画了旧中国农民的不幸和凄苦,又曾被选入当时的小学语文课本,有过较大的影响,所以有些文学史作者也曾在著作中简略地提到过他。 刘大白本姓金,名庆棪,字伯贞,辛亥革命后改姓名为刘靖裔,字大白,又曾用“汉胄”为名,这在当时多少反映了他内心的反清意识。他是浙江绍兴平水镇人,早年曾考中举人;颇有旧学根底。1917年“文学革命”口号提出后,在早期写作白话诗的文人中,刘大白是与刘半农、康白情等同时以写反映下层劳动人民疾苦的新诗出名的。
