Traditional breeding methods are increasingly saturated in mining and utilizing the genetic resources of rice cultivars. To further improve the yield potential of hybrid rice, we must consider the use of favorable gene pools of rice relatives. With the development of molecular biology technology, more and more researches have revealed that there are many favorable genes in the wild relatives of crops. Molecular marker-assisted selection has shown many advantages in the directional import of these distant favorable genes and is increasingly becoming one of the areas of active crop science. The discovery of two high yielding QTLs from common wild rice (Oryza rufipogon) in Malaysia and the preliminary progress of its molecular marker-assisted selection in cultivating super-hybrid rice were reviewed. The research prospects in this area were also prospected.
