The sunset industry is an image of the traditional industrial sectors that are declining in developed countries. After World War II, with the vigorous development of the new scientific and technological revolution, the industrial structure of the developed capitalist countries has undergone great changes. A series of emerging industrial sectors such as atomic energy, electronics, and aerospace are rapidly developing, while traditional industries such as textiles, steel, and shipbuilding are declining. The latter is the so-called sunset industry. Its characteristics are: the consumption of energy and raw materials is relatively large; labor and capital are used more intensively; the environmental pollution is more serious; and the production equipment is aging, and the technical composition and production efficiency are low. Therefore, in developed countries, their dominance in the entire economy has gradually declined. The sunrise industry takes the symmetry of the sunset industry. Generally refers to high-tech industries that have rapidly developed after the Second World War, such as the electronics industry, information industry, atomic energy industry, and aerospace industry.
