英美人有句话:Travel broadens the mind。中国人也将“行万里路”与“读万卷书”相提并论,可见旅行对人的心灵作用之大。旅行,必然会遇到与自己不同的人、不同的风俗、饮食、宗教习惯等等。若想真正了解所到之处的民情,必须努力去理解,甚至谅解。否则如本文作者所说:If you reject the food,ignore the customs,fear the religionand avoid the people,you might better stay home:you are like apebble thrown into water;you become wet on the surface,but youare never part of the water.下面是作者在西班牙遇到的一桩趣事,可作为上述议论的注脚。
