Regardless of whether it is called Bungee, Bungy, Bunjee, Le Benii or Suicide Practice, Bungee Jumping is an increasingly popular sport. Modern bungee jumping evolved from an ancient ritual when Vanuatu natives of the Pacific Island worshipped this ceremony during the Pentecost. The men tied their feet to the vines that had been measured in advance and jumped from the tall trees to the hard ground. On April Fool’s Day in 1979, a group of four students from Oxford’s Adventure Sports Club formed a group to imitate this ritual, leaping from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol with a flexible rubber band. This adventure sport quickly became popular in New Zealand. In the past decade, there have been many fixed bungee jumping sites around the world.
