《三岔口》这出戏,规定情境是在全黑的夜店里打开。任何话剧导演对这个规定情境都会感到头痛,想用一点光亮都不可能:微微的月色,初露的晨曦,这些光源的根据都没有,但在戏曲舞台上却可以大显身手。戏曲舞台采用强烈的自然光照明,在一片通亮的空台上展开了黑夜中的肉搏,这种黑夜的规定情境还有没有呢?有。这黑夜的真实产生于演员的真实表演与观众的创造性的想象中,产生于二者的有机联系中。
