白兰瓜是我省著名特产之一。四十年代由国外引入时仅有一个品系,经过广大劳动人民多年精心栽培和选育,逐步分化成为两个早熟品种和一个晚熟品种,即“小暑红瓤”、“小暑綠瓤”和“大暑”白兰瓜。“小暑红瓤”最早熟,但品质较差;“大暑”白兰瓜品质最优,瓜形圆球形,皮光滑,皮色乳白,向阳面稍带橙黄,肉色翠綠,肉质细软多汁,普遍含糖量为10—12%,最高可达13.8%。
Brandou melon is one of the province’s famous specialty. In the 1940’s, only one strain was imported from abroad. After years of intensive cultivation and breeding, the working people gradually differentiated into two precocious varieties and one late-maturing variety, namely “Xiaoshu Hongzhuo”, “Xiaozhushala” and “Dazhu ”White melon. The quality of “Dazhu” Bailan melon is the best, its shape is round and smooth, its skin color is milky white, its surface is slightly yellowish orange, its flesh color is green and its meat is soft and juicy. Sugar is 10-12%, up to 13.8%.
