五种绿肥牧草都能在侵蚀劣地上正常生长,且在闽南的坡地果园上,五种绿肥牧草均能在高峰水土流失期保持坡面高覆盖度。综合三年的实验结果,无刺含羞草、爬地兰和日本草的分集分枝能力和株高增长速度明显高于宽叶雀稗和百喜草。但由于宽叶雀稗和百喜草一年里可以多次割草,其总生物产量较大。百喜草的覆盖景观优美,是坡地园林化的优良草种。五种绿肥的根系主要集中分布于0~10cm土层。从化学成分上看,宽叶雀稗和百喜草C/N高,氮素含量较低而钾素含量相对较高;爬地兰和无刺含羞草C/N较低,而含氮量却较高。
