Last week, the Minister of Energy of the United Kingdom decided to allocate 5.5 million pounds to support the in-depth feasibility study on the use of the Sawyan Bay seawater power generation project, thus furthering the implementation of the world’s largest tidal power project. The decision was made on the basis of a new report showing that the construction of a 16-kilometer tidal dam in the Seviane Bay would generate 14.4 trillion megawatt-hours of electricity per year, which is 6% of the electricity needed in the United Kingdom. The idea of developing the great energy of the tides of the Sawyer Bay has long been known. The tide here is as high as 30 feet and is the highest tide in the world. In 1981, the committee led by Sir Herman Bondi reported that it was feasible to technically build a tidal bar. This report encouraged Savi to use the Bay Tidal Power Group for more detailed research. The Sawyer Bay Tidal Power Group has six first-rate construction companies participating and receiving government support. The report released last week stated that it can be built before the year 2000.
