We have reported significant gender differences in pathophysiological processes after experimental myocardial infarction in rats. The main manifestations are lower mortality in female rats after coronary artery ligation and left ventricular myocardial contractility (LVMC) after myocardial infarction (MI). The recovery was faster and the establishment of cardiac hypertrophy in the non-infarcted zone was earlier. In order to investigate the mechanism of this gender difference and its relationship with gonads, we further observed the effect of extirpative maturation on the above-mentioned pathophysiological processes in gonads that had not been mated.
