India’s population accounts for 15% of the world’s population and is the second most populous country. The change in India’s population not only has an impact on the country but also has an impact on the world. According to the statistics of the Population Data Bureau of Washington, the population of India has increased from 273 million in 1981 to 685 million in 1982 and reached 746 million in 1984. In the 1920s, the average annual population growth rate was a little more than 1%. It increased to 1.96% in the 1950s, 2.20% in the 1960s, and 2.23% in the 1970s. In the 1970s, the acceleration of the average annual growth rate began to stop. In 1984, the World Bank reported that the average annual population growth rate in India has been reduced to 1.9% since 1982. The increase in the growth rate since the 1920s is due in large part to the dramatic decline in crude mortality from 38‰ in the 1920s.
