BASF expects pesticide sales in 2001 to reach 3.6 billion euros (current exchange rate, 3.085 billion US dollars), an increase of almost 50% from last year’s total sales of 2.428 billion euros. The company also expects annual pre-tax profit before the special item. (EBIT DA) was 720 million Euros. In the first half of the year, BASF’s pesticide sales reached 2.27 billion Euros, an increase of 77.9% over the same period of last year. Prior to this special item, operating income increased by 92.6% to 418 million euros. The increase in sales was largely attributed to the increased sales from the acquisition of cyanamide on July 1, 2000. BASF believes that by the end of 2001, it could surpass the projected annual savings of 125 million euros.
