On 14 May, ESA launched two powerful space telescopes, “Herschel” and “Planck”, at the launch site of Kourou, French Guiana, using the Arion 5ECA launch vehicle Study the origins of the universe and the formation of stars and galaxies. The two observatories cost a total of about 1.8 billion euros (2.44 billion U.S. dollars). About half an hour after the rocket took off, they separated from the top class one after another, and then parted ways and went their own ways. In the coming weeks, both will be tested and phased out to orbit around the second Lagrangian point (L2) of the Sun-Earth system.
