Starting from a slab of geometrical dimensions and chemical composition, the strip can be rolled to the desired size and mechanical properties through a series of hot strip mills. The general strip size and surface quality are affected by the deformation process, whereas the mechanical properties are determined by the water-cooling process used immediately after the finishing block.
