在平远仁居镇上远村,有座建于明朝末年专用于焚烧字纸的小塔,它就是客家人尊崇文化、崇文重教的见证物——字纸库。这座梅州市绝无仅有保存较完好的字纸库,底径约2米、高约4.2米,分上中下三层,层之间外标三层弧形砖,空心,顶为宝葫芦,六角,角尖为几何纹形角翘。上层正面写有意为“吉祥万德所集”的卍(万)字图。中层正面曾写有楷书“善”字(被毁)。据当地老人回忆,“善”字两边书写有楹联,楹联内容为:“敬惜字纸;功德无量。”背
