目前,收视率已成为衡量一个电视节目好坏的重要尺度。在诸多提高收视率方法中,创造、挖掘和利用热点是电视人非常重视的方法。和平时期的军事宣传难度比较大,形成热点就更难。 1998年1月1日,中央电视台《军事报道》栏目开播,每晚19:30至20:00在中央电视台第七套节目播出,其宗旨是:发布权威军事新闻、展示全军将士风采、传播国防科技知识、追踪世界军事风云。两年多来,栏目制作、播出了一大批深受电视观众喜爱的作品,如:《走进阅兵村》、《西部边防纪行》、《伊拉克核查危机》、《聚焦南联盟》等,栏目收视率一直名列中央电视台第七套节目前茅,这个成绩和栏目不断创造热点紧密相连。
