山海关机务段共配属东方红<1>型内燃机车115台,担任着36对旅客列车的牵引和山海关东站的调车任务。每逢冬季,每天有15台左右运用机车停留预热(机车柴油机必须在40℃以上方可起车,60℃以上方可加负荷),点起预热炉,启动柴油机,消耗大量柴油(每月要耗掉柴油50吨之多)以达到保温的要求。为了节约燃油、减少机件不必要的磨耗,我段改变了以往做法,采用了以煤代油、地面循环的方式来为机车保温,取得了良好效果。所用装置的示意图如附图所示。
