高粱抗倒性可分为两种类型,一种是韧性抗倒,一种是刚性抗倒。韧性抗倒与很多形态性状有关,降低株高、增加茎粗和穗柄粗、缩短节间长度和穗柄长、提高茎干物质及糖度有利于抗倒性的提高。刚性抗倒不能完全用形态性状来衡量。增加茎容重、缩短茎基部节间的长度、提高茎基部叶鞘层数、增加茎壁厚度、提高灌浆期干物质向茎部的分配率、茎壁及髓部单位面积维管束的数量多且大、茎部可溶性糖及总糖含量高等有利于刚性抗倒。
