In 1997, it was a relatively flat year for the Chinese liquor market. As the warming of domestic wine market and the increase of beer share in the beverage wine market, the traditional dominance of liquor in the beverage wine market has faltered, and the liquor market itself has become saturated. These factors have constrained the liquor industry to continue to be comprehensive and large. With the development of the scale, the liquor industry has maintained a steady development for a year without major ups and downs. In 1997, the national liquor industry produced a total of 708.68 million tons of white spirits, an increase of 2.5% over 1996. Throughout the year, the customs exported 163 million liters of alcohol and liquor. The export earned US$122 million, an increase of 76.1% over the previous year, and exports were much higher than those of the corresponding products. Looking at the year-round trend of production development, the development in the first and second quarters was basically stable. In the first quarter, the output accounted for 23.5% of the annual total output, the second quarter accounted for 24.5% of the annual total, and the second quarter increased by 4.5% from the first quarter. In the third quarter, due to the influence of the season, the beverage and wine market was dominated by beer, and liquor production was correspondingly compressed. The output decreased by 10% from the second quarter and accounted for 22% of the year. The rebound in the fourth quarter increased production by 36% over the third quarter and accounted for 30% of the entire year. This trend, on the whole, is in line with the market laws of the liquor industry, indicating that the liquor industry in China is in a virtuous cycle of guiding production with market demand and stimulating the development of the industry with market development.
