Sucking and exercise prolactin secretion increased. During normal sleep-wake cycles, there is also a circadian rhythm of prolactin release. Quigley recently reported that there is a close temporal correlation between eating and acute prolactin release in normal women. The normal menstrual cycle of regular women conducted 20 experiments. Blood was collected every 15 minutes via intravenous intubation and serum prolactin was measured by radioimmunoassay. Eight subjects had lunch at 12 o’clock; 4 patients had lunch at 2 o’clock; and 8 patients had fasted between 8am and 4pm as control. Eight subjects, who had lunch at 12 o’clock and had dinner at 5 p.m., were continuously bled to night at 8 o’clock in order to observe the relationship between serum prolactin level and mealtime. The results showed that fasting subjects showed a significant circadian rhythm of prolactin levels, decreased in the morning and gradually increased after 12 noon. As a control, subjects who had lunch at different times showed elevated levels of prolactin within 45 minutes after the meal began. At 5 p.m.
