《新青年》是中国新文学生成的主媒体与原发地,只有回到这个历史现场才能认识到国语文学思潮是真正的新文学主潮;之所以把白话文学思潮改称国语文学思潮,这既是对先驱们积极探索与集思广益的原创意向的尊重,又是对他们发誓为中华民国“造新文学”的爱国精神的弘扬,既是对“国语的文学”与“文学的国语”的双向互动主张的认同,又是对先驱们能认清中华民国成立的政治生态而实现文学革命宗旨的赞赏;之所以认定国语文学思潮是文学革命的主潮,从理论形态上考察,它具有完整性、切实性、层次性、关联性的特征,而从其实践效果来看,不只白话诗与短篇小说取得了意想不到的收获,而且也带动现代媒体、现代教育乃至国家话语实现了白话化,其“所造福德,较孔孟大且十倍”是孙中山与廖仲恺的崇高评价。故而启蒙文学思潮或者救亡与启蒙双重变奏的文学思潮,只能涵纳在国语文学思潮中而不能取代它,这就是历史真实。
