The Portuguese descent inherited by the “native” family made them the privileged class in Macau. They are politically dependent on the Portuguese colonial government and enjoy their own special ethnic privileges and patents. They are culturally accredited to the Portuguese culture and have originated from the Europa civilization. They also alienate the Chinese community in social interactions and regard the customs of the West as their code of conduct. The characteristics of corruption in Macao are closely linked with the existence of a once privileged class of “natives.” However, after all, “children of the earth” are truly native Maucault. At present, many “natives” have adapted to the new environment and have played a unique role in Macao’s political and economic life.
