According to Stora Enso Group Group, Stora Enso Group’s successful launch of innovative results - microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), will bring innovative changes in a variety of industries. In late 2011, Stora Enso’s Imatra plant in Finland has started pilot production of microfibrillated cellulose. Microfibrillated cellulose is found as a by-product in the nanotechnology research process. Wood pulp is made into a transparent, seemingly gel-like, microfibrillated cellulose by a technique that breaks down the fiber into microfibers, which are micron-sized components. Filaments are micron-level, natural components of fibers that, in terms of length, are 1,000 times more nanometer than nanometers and do not fall into the category of nanotechnology.
