At the beginning of the implantation process, mammalian zygotes develop up to the blastocyst stage and come into contact with the epithelium that will differentiate into specific areas of the intima surface at the implantation site. These implantation sites have some morphological and functional changes that distinguish them from the non-implantation sites or the intima of non-pregnant animals. Changes in implantation sites include stromal differentiation of stromal cells and increased permeability of blood vessels. These changes are controlled by hormones and are the result of the loss of anion on the cell surface, which may be related to the implantation of the blastocyst at the implantation site around 5-6 days.
