Objective To study the protective effect of zinc on acute cadmium poisoning renal injury. Methods Rats were intraperitoneally injected with CdCl2 (15μmol / kg) and mercaptoethanol (ME) mixed solution at the same time, Zn (15μmol / kg) was injected subcutaneously. Results Adding zinc could significantly reduce the content of cadmium in the renal cortex, meanwhile, the content of iron in the mitochondria and cytoplasm of the kidney also decreased and the content of zinc increased, and the lipid peroxidation which should be increased at 2 hours after cadmium was suppressed. Disappeared after 4 hours, the SOD activity was significantly increased; but the improvement of renal function and ultrastructure is not obvious. Conclusions Oxygen free radical injury may be the main mechanism of cadmium-induced renal injury. The antagonistic effect of zinc on cadmium-induced renal injury is insignificant, whether it is related to dose or other factors, and remains to be further studied.
