加筋土在自重及墙顶荷载作用下,填料中因受力状态不同而形成压密区、剪胀区及弹性区。剪胀区向临空面膨胀挤出产生对墙面的土压力。见图1 由于筋条的作用,一部分剪胀力通过摩擦作用转换为筋条的轴向力。筋条约束土体的膨胀,从而减少对墙面的土压力,我们把这种加筋产生的效果,称之为加筋效应。人们在加筋土的现场原型试验或室内模型试验中,观测土压力的目的,主要就是为了观察加筋效应。但是加筋土墙背的实测土压力图形,是一条波形起伏很大的曲线,它的大值包络线与主动土压
