随着中国的改革开放,自上世纪八九十年代起,一批批中国历史学者奔赴美国学习。时光荏苒,当初青涩的留学生大多已在学术上打开一片天地。功成名就的背后,却有许多不为人知的甘苦。王希、姚平主编《在美国发现历史——留美历史学人反思录(》北京大学出版社2010年版)一书中,31位当初在美国立身扎根的学者们或叙或议,讲述那一代在美国的中国历史人的种种经历。这部回忆录集的作者们虽然个人经历千差万别、研究方向迥异,但让笔者印象深刻共鸣阵阵的是感怀恩师的那些篇章。这些学者每每谈起当年导师对自己的扶助与关怀,感激、感动、感慨之情扑面而来。
