Which are the fastest growing companies in China’s hi-tech business sector? The answers were revealed on November 23 at the awards ceremony for the “Technology Fast 50 China 2006”. Topping the list is CapitalBio, a leading life-science company which develops and prepares for the market a wide range of products including biochip technology for drug discovery research, genomics, proteomics, bio-safety testing and as well as clinical applications.In addition, the company has acquired patents for almost 50 of its own products. Second place goes to NavInfo, the first company to launch sophisticated digital maps on the Chinese market. With 10 years’ R&D experience in manufacturing navigable maps and developing original technologies, NavInfo is acclaimed for its expertise in this field. The third prize was won by The9 Limited, a Shanghai-based online-games provider and operator. Over the last three years the company has notched up a huge 2,733% growth in revenues. Actions Semiconductor, the largest mainland chip-design company, was honored with fourth prize. Now the leading domestic chip-design enterprise, the firm has achieved an extraordinary 2,591% increase in revenues over the last three years. Focus Media, awarded fifth prize, was listed on the NASDAQ in 2005. The new media company’s main businesses are a commercial building advertising network and a concern which supplies terminal video broadcasts for shopping malls as well as providing other outdoor digital advertising modes. The company re- corded a startling three year revenue increase of 1,715%. Generally, the award-winning companies extend over a wide range of sectors, implying that China’s high-tech industry is becoming ever more diverse.
