William Black’s “Milton” is a poem full of imagination, full of obscure images, great thinking span of poetry, but also a rare fantasy works. Freud’s psychoanalysis is the theoretical basis for many Black scholars to analyze the poem. Different from the existing viewpoints, the subconscious motivation hidden in the “Milton” poetry is not libido but the death instinct. This article attempts to break the implication of this poem by analyzing the projection of Blair’s subconscious death instinct in poetry and retrospection of the stimulus that causes this instinct to overflow.
