據《古事記》中卷所載,在應神天皇時代,《論語》、《千字文》便隨學者和邇吉師(譯者注:《日本書紀》稱“王仁”)一起傳來日本。關於《千字文》的這段記載雖難以確定是否屬實,但至少可以肯定,與文字相關的學問的傳來,可以追溯到應神天皇時期。《古事記》中所述《千字文》,與《論語》並舉,是日本人最早學習到的漢籍,這一點意義重大。最近,藤原宫飛鳥池遺跡出土了寫有《千字文》的木簡,據此可以肯定在七世紀後半,
