从二十世纪初,清政府推出“新政”颁布了我国第一个有现代意义的学制《钦定学堂章程》以来,我国中学课程选入了四篇外国文学作品的译本,发展至今,外国文学作品的选入篇目虽然有了明显的增加,但是,仍然不能说外国文学作品在中学语文课本中发挥了其应有的作用,它的巨大价值仍然在被应试教育体系埋没。
