Cognitive linguists have extensively studied the conceptualization of emotions in English metaphors. They think that human emotions are abstract in nature and often need to be conceptualized and expressed through borrowed metaphors, which are often based on human body experience. In this paper, I compare the concept metaphor “HAPPINESS ” in both English and Chinese and discover the similarities and differences of the metaphor in the two languages. I come to the conclusion that Lakoff’s viewpoint is universal and also applicable to the Chinese environment in conclusion.
