《点石斋画报》于一八八四年五月八日在上海创刊。旬刊,一般逢六出版。十六开本。随《申报》附送并零售。由点石斋石印书局印行,故此得名。封面用红、绿、黄等彩色纸,画和文则用连史纸石印。以天干、地支、八音、六艺为编目,装订成册,每册八帧,十二册为一辑。该刊以介绍社会新闻、世界风物,市民生活为主,凡『新闻事迹之颖异者』或『新出一器』,均加以『绘图缀说』。一时高楼大厦、火车轮船、火器洋枪等皆收入尺幅之中,使读者大开眼界。 “Dian Shi Zhai Pictorial” on May 8, 1844 in Shanghai founded.
