Finland calculates the standardized incidence ratio (SIR) of gastrointestinal cancer in different socioeconomic conditions and educational populations. Gastrointestinal cancer includes all patients with esophagus, gastrocolic, liver (including primary), gallbladder, and pancreatic cancer registered in the Finnish Cancer Registry from 1971 to 1975, aged from 30 to 69 years old, with a total of 8,802 cases. The 1970 Finnish national census records provide information on socio-economic conditions and education, dividing patients into farmers, self-employed persons, managers, employees, skilled workers and non-skilled workers and recipients.
