塑料由于来源丰富、成型工艺简单、重量轻,又具有绝缘性好、耐腐蚀、比强度高、抗磁性等优良性能,因而已经由兵器工业的代用材料逐步发展成为现代兵器的一种不可缺少的材料。但相比之下,轻武器中研究与应用塑料的步伐却不快。其原因首先在于轻武器的主要品种更新换代过程太长(以轻武器中装备量最大的步枪为例,服役年限一般为25—40年);其次是新原理、新结构虽屡有提出,多数却往往因装备量大,换装费用太高而被放弃。这种情况在一定程度上影响了新材料在轻武器中的推广应用。
