Using the Principle of Resonance In the seventeenth century, Christian Huygens invented the pendulum clock. He hung a few minutes on the wall of the room and each pendulum swung around. Huygens found that in less than a moment all the pendulums began to swing in a precise, synchronized pace. He came to the theory that the clock’s sound waves entered the wall, interacting with the respective pendulums of each pendulum, causing all the pendulums to swing at the same tempo. Huygens’s theory is now a widely accepted physical principle, known as the “resonance principle.”
