大蒜为百合科葱属植物生蒜的鳞茎。祖国医学认为:大蒜性温,味辛辣,具有下气消谷、除风、止痢、散痛、消毒气等功效。现代医学证实:大蒜具有抗菌、消炎、杀虫、抗癌、降血压、降血脂、预防动脉粥样硬化,提高肌体免疫功能,特别是对其他抗生素易产生抗药作用的白色念珠菌、隐球菌等真菌及多种革兰氏阳性及革兰氏阴性细菌有较好疗效。临床上多用于深部霉菌感染、支气管炎、呼吸道感染、消化道感染及脑膜炎等。大蒜是一个疗效肯定、研究文献颇多、药用历史久远的中草药。
