我国的工程勘察设计咨询行业创建于计划经济体制下，经历了发展、调整、壮大、重组的曲折历程。截至2001年底，全国有工程勘察设计咨询单位11338家，主要从事工程勘察、设计、咨询、监理、工程总承包等服务业务。全国从事工程咨询的机构有3000余家，从业人员约30万人，其中近80 China’s engineering survey and design consulting industry was created under the planned economy system and underwent a tortuous course of development, adjustment, expansion and restructuring.
