2002年对于中国考古界来说是一个异乎寻常的年代,因为一座被发掘出来的古城及其出土的众多珍贵文物,秦朝的历史即将被改写,秦史的一些空白即将得到填充,大量的史料信息将独立构建崭新的历史框架,从而使古籍中语焉不详的秦王朝得以生动的“复活”。这座震憾了考古界而史书上却不曾提及的古城,位于湘西土家族苗族自治州龙山县里耶镇,它所出土的3万枚“湘西里耶秦简”,被专家誉为是可与“西安兵马俑”相媲美的考古发现。
