Our results suggest that hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis dysfunction in patients with acute cor pulmonale is an important determinant of hypoxia in male patients with pulmonary heart disease, which may be affected by inhibition of the entire axis, whereas carbon dioxide retention is less significant than hypoxia .
