A World Bank report released on October 27, 2000 shows that as the EU has recently adopted stricter food hygiene standards, the annual export of food by African countries to the EU countries will substantially decrease. African goods are mainly exported to EU countries. According to the new food hygiene standards set by the EU, the share of foodstuffs such as cereals, dried fruits and nuts exported from African countries to the EU will be reduced by 64% per year, causing them to lose 700 million yuan each year
