I. SUMMARY During the period from February to early March, El Niño resulted in persistent temperature and precipitation anomalies. Nierino continues to change the precipitation pattern, making South-East Asia very arid while North American and South American coasts are very humid. For example, precipitation in Southeast Asia is 150 millimeters below normal, compared with at least 75 millimeters more precipitation in the Pacific coast of South America than in previous years.
