Some of the most stable economies in the world are in Asia. Is it time for this worry? Laos is a poor country sandwiched between Vietnam and Thailand, with a population of 6 million, no sea of people and nothing to attract the world’s attention. But for now, it is enjoying a rare attention. Last month, it was allowed to join the World Trade Organization. This week, it hosted the Ninth ASEM, hosting leaders from the most dynamic and energetic regions in the world. The country exports gold, copper and hydropower, but its economy is modest but enjoys a good reputation. Its growth rate is not only one of the fastest in the world but also one of the most stable in the world. From 2002 to 2011, its economic growth fluctuated within a very small area, never lower than 6.2% and not exceeding 8.7%. Over the same period only three countries growth
